Winter will be upon us soon, we are already experiencing the odd frost in the mornings here in Christchurch.

So again its time to check over the greenhouses to make sure they are going to be efficient with heating or heat retention for the cold months ahead.

Things to check out firstly are

1.  Inflation  - If you have a twin skinned greenhouse make sure that all the covers are properly inflated, if they are flapping and limp it means that there is either a hole in the covers, they have come unclipped somewhere, your ducting is not inserted properly or the fan is not working correctly.  The fan needs also to be checked and cleaned out to ensure smooth running.

2. Covers -  are these all clipped in correctly and check for any holes. Make sure that the covers are clean and free of debris.

3.  Gutters - Check that the gutters have no leaves or debris blocking them so that they flow smoothly when it rains, at this time of the year there is potential for blockages with autumn leaves and not much rain.

4.  Vents - Make sure all the racks are greased and working smoothly.

If you require a maintenance check, give us a call and the teams will be able to do a pre winter check and fix up any problems should they arise.

Cover replacement should be every 6 years to get the optimum light  levels from the film, just check to make sure that your covers are within these time frames, if not give us a call and we can replace them for you. The overall cost is nothing compared to the benefits your crop gets from fresh covers.

We also still recommend the Simple Sheds for stock shelters and as the days get shorter and colder,  a Simple Shed is the answer for giving your stock that extra protection that is not a high cost.
