The Big Snow

What a winter it has been here in the South Island, the 'big snow' of course being the main talking point.  A few structures suffered damage in Mid Canterbury primarily, but these are all up and running again after a mammoth effort by our construction contractors , Greenhouse Construction. Most people carried insurance so that part of the stress was eased with fast assessment and go ahead's from the insurance companies, enabling the claimant to suffer minimal losses in production.

Most models are snow loaded and the councils set areas with specific snow load for buildings and we comply with this. The structures affected by the snow were a non snow loaded greenhouse. All manufacturers experienced losses in the recent snow, which was a once in 60 years event. Our priority was to get customers up and running in the shortest possible time.

Maintenance Check

It is time to check our your structure to ensure that the inflation is correct and that skins are nice and tight over the frame. Grease your racks if you have a vented model and do a check around for any holes. Clean the covers using a normal window cleaning set up. We do advise that no lichen is allowed to grow, you won't get this off and it is detrimental to the light levels in your greenhouse. Cover replacement should be done every 6 to 8 years. If you require a maintenance check or repairs on your greenhouse , please contact us as our teams are available for all these services. We can still replace covers whilst your crop is in the greenhouse.

New Developments

The latest exciting news is that we have developed a P olycarbonate Clad Greenhouse that is selling very well in Australia. The projects over there are of 1 or 2 hectare blocks , for flowers, tomatoes and quarantine houses. The unbreakable cladding with its long warranty is replacing glass as a cladding, cheaper and easier to place , the results are as good if not better than glass. for peace of mind growing. The parts are all manufactured in Christchurch with teams available nationwide and internationally for construction.

We also offer a range of S hade Screen Systems and F ogging Systems

Harfords have added a range of F arm and Commercial sheds to our range of products, suitable for carports, calf shelters,  storage sheds, packing sheds and right up to industrial sheds, so give us a call if you are looking for a shed.
